Partnering for a fairer community: Geelong Advertiser ‘loans’ employee to the Foundation

For over 55 years, organisations from across the region have ‘loaned’ their employees to the Foundation’s Loaned Executive program. Currently, almost 30 employees from over 20 Geelong businesses are on ‘loan’ to the Give Where You Live Foundation, to help create a fairer G21 community.

The Loaned Executives help support the growth of the Foundation’s Workplace Giving program, which is one of the best and strongest programs of its kind in Australia.

This year’s Loaned Executives come from all walks of life and a diverse range of businesses from across the region. This includes many of the Foundation’s long-term partners, such as Barwon Water, GMHBA, VIVA Energy, and the Geelong Advertiser, as well as many joining the Loaned Executive program for the first time, including Lendlease, Arthur Street, Higher Mark, and HK Solutions.

Ramon Rodriguez, General Manager of the Geelong Advertiser said they were very proud to have MJ Anjum, Business Development Manager, supporting the 2022 program.

“The strong partnership between the Geelong Advertiser and the Give Where You Live Foundation spans over several decades, with the Geelong Advertiser ‘loaning’ our first executive more than 40 years ago. We’re proud to have MJ representing us this year who has plans to present internally to our Geelong Advertiser team as well as other local businesses.”

MJ Anjum, 2022 Geelong Advertiser Loaned Executive said participating in the program was a great way to learn more about the issues in the community and help make a difference.

“Being a part of the workplace giving program was one of the most fulfilling opportunities to get to know the community better. The workshop’s high point was certainly getting to know some incredible speakers and their inspiring stories of humanitarian responsibilities, as well as learning with so many welcoming and selfless members. I would highly recommend it to everyone in the Geelong community to learn about the area and work for a better Geelong. I would like to thank the Give Where You Live team for making this opportunity possible and special.”

Almost 200 businesses and over 4,000 local workers currently donate a little from their pay each week through the Foundation’s Workplace Giving Program.

“For as little as the cost of a cup of coffee each pay, you can make a real difference with Workplace Giving. Over the course of a year donating $5 a week from your pay will provide over 50 meals for people who may otherwise go without food.”

“Last year, Workplace Giving raised over $600,000 for the community, which shows the power of collective giving. When we all give a little together, our community gets a lot.” Bill said.

Earlier this month, the 2022 Loaned Executives completed the two-day professional development program, which included communications and public speaking training and a visit to Kids+ and the Common Ground project, two of the Foundation’s Community Partners.

“Loaned Executives learn about the Foundation and the needs in the community so they can act as an extension of our fundraising operations and share how the donations from Workplace Giving are making a real difference in the community.”

“Over the coming months, our Loaned Executives will be out and about making presentations to encourage people to consider signing up to Workplace Giving and thanking current donors by sharing the impact their donations are having in the community. I encourage local businesses to welcome our Loaned Executives into their organisations by booking a presentation,” Bill added.
