Be Bold For Change – International Women’s Day

As we acknowledge International Women’s Day, we turn our attention to the community services working to protect, assist and perhaps most importantly empower vulnerable women in our community.

For the Give Where You Live Foundation, finding ways to create change and make an impact is crucial.

In the 2016/2017 Financial Year, the Give Where You Live Foundation provided the following assisting vulnerable women in our community.

Minerva Community Services
A $30,000 grant aims to improve the capabilities of mainstream family violence services and agencies to provide culturally-appropriate responses to the Karen and Karenni communities.

 

 

 

Barwon Centre Against Sexual Assault
A $30,000 grant working to increase capacity to provide specialised therapeutic trauma counselling and crisis support to sexual assault victims in the Colac Region.

 

 

 
Geelong Mums
A $30,000 grant working to support mothers by improving the safety of health and wellbeing of babies and young children. This is through the provision of emergency relief nursery equipment like cots/mattresses, prams and car seats as well as other essential items like clothing, linen, nappies, formula and feeding equipment.

 

 

Bethany Community Services
With a Give Where You Live Foundation Innovation Grant of $140,000 over two years, Bethany Community Services aims to alter the experience for children attending court as a direct result of their experience with family violence. This aims to ensure that women who seek legal protection from family violence are supported at the court through the implementation of the ‘Court Support 4Children’ program.

Through our connections with these partners we on our way to creating change and a community that respects and is inclusive of all women.

We believe that to be bold for change means taking risks and supporting programs that lead to gender equality and a more inclusive community.
