Your donations at work: Geelong Zero Project

1-7 August was National Homelessness Week

The theme for National Homelessness Week 2022 was ‘to end homelessness we need a plan.’ The Give Where You Live Foundation is proud to share a new partnership with Neami National that will help reduce homelessness in the Geelong community and end rough sleeping by 2025.

Kerry Farrance, Head of Impact, Give Where You Live Foundation said that under the Foundation’s new Partnership Impact Fund, it has provided two years funding to support the new Geelong Zero Project

“Thanks to the generosity of the community, the Give Where You Live Foundation is very proud to be providing funding to support the launch of the Geelong Zero Project.”

“We are looking forward to working alongside local organisations, to help eliminate rough sleeping by 2025 and ensure that every person in our community has a safe, warm place to spend the night,” Kerry added.

What is the Geelong Zero Project?

The Geelong Zero Project brings together local organisations to reduce homelessness in the Geelong region to end rough sleeping by 2025.

http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR_3j_wZ0qw the Geelong Zero is supported by Neami National, the Give Where You Live Foundation, the Alliance to End Homelessness and a network of other local agencies.

The initiative involves collating data regarding rough sleeping in our region to ensure that when homelessness does occur it is rare, brief, and a one-time occurrence.

In October, the Geelong Zero Project will hold its first Community Connections week to start understanding the scope of the issue. Local community organisations will come together to capture data to determine the number of people who are rough sleeping in Geelong. This data will then be used to develop solutions suited to the issues facing Geelong.

“Funding research and data collection initiatives such as the Geelong Zero Project is the crucial first step to accurately understand the issues in our community and work to provide effective solutions,” Kerry Farrance said.
