Barwon DISAbility Resource Council – Assert 4 All Advocacy
Give Where You Live is proud to support Barwon Disability Resource Council (BDRC), a not-for-profit organisation providing systemic advocacy and information for individuals with disabilities, families and carers, as well as community projects that address its mission of providing rights, social and economic inclusion for all.
Advocacy means standing beside the person, to support their choices and needs and we are often ‘the only one on their side’.
Give Where You Live provided $30,000 to assist BDRC’s advocacy program – Assert 4 All in Geelong, Surf Coast and Queenscliff, for much needed advocacy for individuals on many different issues including homelessness and child protection matters for parents with disabilities.
As one client put it so aptly, “After starting with Assert 4 All, our family has a greater understanding of our rights and needs and another said “My family are very thankful of the support and understanding.”
With the new National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), advocacy is even more vital, to assist individuals to navigate this new scheme and to continue to provide advocacy support for all of the issues that fall outside of the scheme.
