Investing in innovation to tackle homelessness
In 2026, Give Where You Live Foundation’s Social Innovation Lab focused on one of our region’s most pressing challenges, homelessness.
Drawing on the findings of our Home Truths research, we brought together people with lived experience, frontline organisations, government and community leaders to explore the root causes of homelessness and identify innovative solutions with the potential to create lasting change.
To bring these ideas to life, the Foundation has launched its Innovation Fund, investing $150,000 to support two projects over the next 12 months:
🔹 Meli – delivering an early intervention approach to prevent and respond to youth homelessness.
🔹 The Power In You Project – supporting people leaving from the justice system to successfully transition into housing and community, reducing the risk of homelessness and reoffending.
These projects will be supported and evaluated to understand what works and identify scalable solutions for our region.
“Innovation is essential if we’re going to solve complex social issues like homelessness. Through our Social Innovation Lab and Innovation Fund, we’re backing bold new ideas that have the potential to create lasting impact for our community.”
The Social Innovation Lab is about more than funding projects, it’s about bringing people together to understand complex issues, uncover root causes and invest in solutions that have the potential to create lasting systems change.
We look forward to sharing more about each of these innovative projects and the impact they are creating over the coming weeks.
