2022 Feed Geelong Appeal Ambassador: MasterChef’s Simon Toohey

MasterChef’s Simon Toohey, who moved to Geelong earlier this year, is the 2022 Feed Geelong Appeal Ambassador and is encouraging the community to support the Appeal to help fight hunger.

Having recently moved to Geelong with my partner Georgia, I was delighted to support the 2022 Feed Geelong Appeal to help make sure nobody in our community goes hungry. I’ve always loved food and it’s heartbreaking to know that many people in our local community are going without food. That’s why I was more than happy to partner with the Give Where You Live Foundation to help raise money for their 2022 Feed Geelong Appeal,” said Simon.

After appearing on MasterChef Australia, Simon Toohey is now using his passion for food and platform to support food relief.

Being so passionate about cooking and food, I was really shocked to learn that there are so many people in our community who are struggling to put healthy, nutritious food on the table every day. As the Feed Geelong Appeal Ambassador, I’m proud to be helping fight hunger in our community by raising awareness and encouraging other people in our community to also get involved and donate.”

In a community where 53,000 families and individuals need food support* the Give Where You Live Foundation is thrilled to have Simon Toohey on board to help inspire others to help fight hunger in our community.

“I want to help make sure nobody in our community goes hungry. You can also help fight hunger in our community by supporting the Give Where You Live Foundation’s Feed Geelong Appeal,” he added.

The appeal raises money for the Give Where You Live Foundation’s Feed Geelong initiative which exists to address food insecurity in the G21 region.

As part of the Feed Geelong Appeal, Ambassador Simon Toohey and some of the Give Where You Live Foundation’s community partners have shared their favourite recipes with the community.

Simon wants to encourage others to get together with mates to cook some of the recipes and donate on Brown Paper Bag Day (October 14) when all donations will be DOUBLED.^

“On Friday 14 October I’m encouraging everyone to get involved in Brown Paper Bag Day and donate your lunch money to help fight hunger in our region. Why not get together with your work mates and cook some of the delicious Feed Geelong Appeal recipes to share for lunch instead of buying it that day?” Simon said.

Simon has shared two dishes with the supporters of the Feed Geelong Appeal his Mum’s Oily pasta and Cornbread with Salad.

My go-to dish is Mum’s Oily pasta which I’ve shared as part of the Feed Geelong Appeal. Another one of my favourite meals is another recipe I’ve shared with the community for the Feed Geelong Appeal ‘Cornbread with Salad.’”
