Volunteer Opportunity: Become a Community Grants Review Panellist

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability and community involvement, the Give Where You Live Foundation invites all community members, from all walks of life to participate in our Grant Review Panel process.

We are currently recruiting approximately 100 volunteers to assist in the review of our 2019 Community Grant Round. Will you help determine how your donations can make a difference for those in need in our community?

Here are five reasons why you should become a Community Grant Review Panellist.

  1. Learn more about our community
Did you know that in some pockets of our community, the unemployment rate is as high as 25% (ABS Census 2016)?     That the equivalent of 2,000 meals are distributed throughout the Geelong region every day?     Or that in some areas in our region youth disengagement is as high as 50% (ABS Census 2016)?By participating in the Foundation’s community grant review panel, you will gain insight into the work of our community partners and have your say in ensuring your donations are being used to meet needs that are important to the community.

  1. It’s a unique and easy way to volunteer!
Taking up only a couple of hours a week throughout the month of May, as a reviewer you will be asked to read and provide feedback on up to 5 grant applications and participate in a panel discussion session with others who have read the same grants as you.

  1. Great personal development opportunity
You will be put on a panel alongside a small number of people from all walks of life with different backgrounds, skill-sets and interests, this is a great opportunity to gain a new professional experience. Don’t forget, you’re welcome to include this experience on your resume!

  1. A great chance to give back and make a difference
The Geelong / G21 region has always been a close-knit community – one that bands together. Your participation as a community grant review panellist gives you the chance to not only learn what is happening to the vulnerable people in our region but also the chance for you to give back and make a difference.

  1. Take part with your business team
With the review process being able to be undertaken within your work environment, this is a great team building/professional development opportunity for your staff. The process will also provide a unique insight into the real need within our community and how your donations can have an impact. Read the Business Team Panel Review Information and Form here
