Supporting socially isolated CALD residents

Through your donations, Multicultural Aged Care Services (MACS) are strengthening social participation and engagement of socially isolated culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) home care clients.

A $16,949 grant from the Give Where You Live Foundation funded in part the purchase of a 12-seater commuter bus to facilitate safe and regular transport for an identified cohort of CALD home care clients to MACS’ program ‘Mindful Moves’. Your donation can help people like Herbert to reconnect back to their ethnic communities and the community in general.

Mindful Moves incorporates elements of Pilates, yoga, Tai Chi, Chi ball, strength training, balance and flexibility exercises, and a walking track. With eight sessions running throughout the week, ‘Mindful Moves’ not only provides the opportunity to exercise, but also encourages residents and home care consumers to use their independence and connect with others. Staff have noticed that there has also been a reduction in pain management medication and a reduction in falls in some of MACS high-risk residents.

Key services provided by MACS are: Residential aged care, independent living units, supported residential facility, Dementia specific care, respite care, home care and palliative care

Mindful Moves is the best exercise I have done in a long time. I look forward to the classes every morning. They help me to forget about my aches and pains for a while,” Herbert, MACS resident.
