Community Choice celebrates important milestone

The Give Where You Live Foundation’s Community Choice voucher program recently celebrated an important milestone.

Over the past 5 years, in conjunction with technology provider OK200, the Community Choice voucher program has reached over $500,000 in redeemed food and pharmacy vouchers.  Thanks to your donations, this means thousands of locals have been able to access food and pharmacy items with dignity and choice when facing challenging times.

We’re proud to celebrate this milestone in conjunction with OK200 who power the administration of the program with their technology platform.

With a network of food relief agencies, cafes and pharmacies on the merchant list, most community members chose to use their vouchers at Geelong Foodshare and participating pharmacies throughout the region.

The Give Where You Live Foundation’s Community Choice initiative is an emergency relief voucher program providing support for people experiencing financial crisis in our region.

Since the early 1990’s the Give Where You Live Foundation has been delivering an emergency relief voucher program to give people in the Geelong community access to basic necessities such as food, material aid, and support for pharmacy prescriptions.

In 2021, thanks to support from the State Government, the Foundation was able to further strengthen and expand this support, to what is now the Community Choice voucher program.

We partner with over 25 local community service organisations (agencies) who distribute the vouchers to individuals and families, ensuring immediate assistance.

The initiative provides emergency relief in the form of food, pharmacy, and material aid (household goods and recycled furniture) vouchers. The initiative provides choice and dignity for people seeking emergency relief and an opportunity for businesses in our region to be part of the solution, actively creating a fairer community and a supportive network that benefits everyone involved.
