Geelong Riverfest cancelled for 2016

It is with great disappointment that we inform everyone that the Riverfest event, rescheduled for Sunday, 23rd October 2016 will not be going ahead.

Following our last rescheduling notification we have remained in regular contact with the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CCMA) and the City of Greater Geelong (CoGG) who, along with our organising committee, have been carefully monitoring the river, its banks and the coming weather forecasts.  We have today been advised that the Barwon River and its banks have not recovered as we had hoped, and it is predicted that with the forecast weather conditions over the next week the River and its banks will not have a chance to recover and dry out to ensure a safe enough standard to hold the Riverfest event.

The Give Where You Live Foundation would like to thank everyone involved in this year’s event: the organising committee, who’s knowledge and connections within the Geelong Rowing and Dragon Boating community, are invaluable; our sponsor ‘Programmed’, who has supported Riverfest since 2015 and all the Dragon Boat and Rowing coaches who volunteered their time to train our crews.

Thank you to all participants, for embracing the new challenges of rowing/dragon boating and worked so tirelessly to fundraise for the Feed Geelong Appeal.  We would like to announce that to date $11,720 has been raised by our wonderful crews towards the Feed Geelong Appeal – Thank You!

Again, thank you for your involvement and support of Riverfest 2016 and of the Give Where You Live Foundation.
