GROW: collaborating on social procurement outcomes and inclusive employment

The Foundation’s GROW initiative collaborated with Built on the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre ‘Industry Connect’ event.

Held on 30 October in the Presidents Room at GMHBA Stadium, this project specific event, for contractors wishing to tender on the project, was hosted to share critical project information and industry expectations during the development phase.

The GROW team is looking forward to supporting Built to deliver social procurement and inclusive employment outcomes throughout the two year construction of the project.

Congratulations are extended to the Plenary Group consortium on being appointed to deliver the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCEC) precinct development, in partnership with and on Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation country.

The Give Where You Live Foundation’s GROW initiative looks forward to supporting the consortium and construction partner Built, to deliver the aspirational social procurement outcomes, throughout the two-year build and during the 25-year facilities management phase, as part of the Geelong City Deal.

As Geelong locals we are excited about the new convention and exhibition spaces and the new hotel….but we are even more excited about the social impact Nyaal Banyul GCEC will have!

GROW is the Geelong region’s local, trusted, social procurement intermediary, delivering social impact for our region. The project team at Rural and Regional Victoria and Development Victoria worked with the Give Where You Live Foundation, via the GROW initiative, to ensure lasting social and economic benefits for our region.

During the tender phase GROW:
✅ Developed a new model and approach to ensure the delivery of inclusive employment outcomes, in collaboration with Development Victoriagforce employment + recruitment and partners.

✅Supported the development of inclusive employment, social and local spend targets and abatements.

The Victorian Government Social Procurement Framework established social impact objectives and requirements for the procurement of goods, services and construction – but most major projects have fallen short on delivering their social procurement inclusive employment and spend targets. The social procurement system innovations that GROW and Development Victoria designed into the GCEC tender, contracts and abatements is the next bold step in evolving social procurement to deliver against the aspirations of the Victorian Government’s Social Procurement Framework.

GROW is at the forefront of Victoria’s social procurement evolution, reach out if you are keen to learn more.
