Through the Give Where You Live Foundation’s GROW Initiative we are working, in partnership with G21 Geelong Region Alliance, to address entrenched place-based disadvantage by reducing unemployment rates in the most disadvantaged communities in the Geelong / G21 region over the next ten years.
GROW is a unique regional collective impact strategy which focuses on using local and social procurement; which happens through GROW signatory organisation choosing to buy local goods and services, and using the power of their buying, influence and employment to deliver social impact.
The Foundation’s FEED GEELONG program seeks to improve the immediate food insecurity for those most in need in our community through:
- the Feed Geelong Appeal – the Feed Geelong Appeal promotes awareness of Geelong’s food crisis and raises valuable funds to assist in the distribution of food to the men, women and children of our region who are doing it tough. Activities and events that are part of the Appeal include the ‘Pop-up’ Soup Kitchens (July), Brown Paper Bag Day (October), Community Lunch (October) and Seeing is Believing Tour (October).
- the Direct Assistance Voucher Program – for over 30 years the Foundation has an annual emergency relief program for socially and financially disadvantaged people experiencing an immediate financial crisis within the Geelong region. The program aims to resolve the immediate crisis by providing access to basic resources (food, material aid and pharmacy vouchers) and address the underlying causes by partnering with local community service agencies that provide specialist programs and support in conjunction with the vouchers. Give Where You Live administers the Direct Assistance Voucher Program which is funded in part by the Percy Baxter Charitable Trust, managed by Perpetual and FORD.
- Research and data collection on the food assistance system – In 2014 the Foundation published Food for Thought a needs assessment of Geelong’s emergency food relief system. View full report In June 2018 the Foundation will publish it’s latest report on the system.
- Grants – the Foundation seeks to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the food assistance system by providing small and medium grants to build the capacity of organisations that provide assistance to those in need.
ENGAGE is a youth philanthropy program of the Give Where You Live Foundation in partnership with Gforce Employment Solutions.
The program educates and empowers young people age 15-25 years old in the G21 region to effect positive change, by identifying youth issues that are important to them and making grants to organisations working on these issues.
