Supporting those with addiction out of a life crisis

Through your donations, Foundation 61 are providing long-term healing and hope for people affected by addiction through a residential based rehabilitation program.

A $30,000 grant from the Give Where You Live Foundation in 2017 works to support people dealing with life controlling issues usually associated with drugs and alcohol.

With just 12 spaces in the program at any one time and a waiting list currently over 100, there is a growing need in our community. Foundation 61 have also noticed a 60% increase of referrals in the past three years.

For Nathan, Foundation 61 was instrumental in overcoming his addiction to computer games:
“I came to Foundation 61 about 10 months ago to overcome my addiction to Computer games and cannabis.  Ever since my teenage years computer games have been a major obsession in my life.  They were a way to escape my problems and live out my fantasies.

“Eventually it came to point where I just failed at even finding people who could stand to live with me because I would not care for myself or my surroundings.

“I travelled to Foundation 61 with the idea of doing an Alcohol and Other Drugs course and seeing how the place was run and once I realized that it was a safe environment run by a lot of caring and intelligent people I knew it would be a good place to start my recovery.”
