Increasing independence for people with disabilities

Thanks to your generous donations, Solve Disability Solutions are assisting people with disabilities so they can live independently and have the opportunity to pursue their goals at home, at school, at work and at leisure by providing highly customised equipment that meets their individual needs.

A $10,000 grant from the Give Where You Live Foundation allows Solve to work with technical volunteers who provide custom made equipment for people with disabilities in the Geelong region when commercial equipment alternatives cannot be found.

Your donations are assisting people like Kath. She lost the use of her right arm following a stroke. Solve volunteers were able to develop two kitchen devices specifically for Kath, allowing her to use the kitchen independently once again.

Instead of struggling with releasing a level and pressing buttons simultaneously on her Mixmaster, when baking, Solve Barwon Project Coordinator and volunteers were able to modify by adding a simple lever to the Mixmaster. A customised ‘bowl-tipper’ was also created, saving Kath the trouble of picking up and tipping the bowl with one arm.
