Your generous donations have allowed OneCare Geelong to help families build a more positive future. Funded with a $30,000 grant from the Give Where You Live Foundation, OneCare connects volunteer mentors with families and individuals who are managing life controlling issues and circumstances through the COACH (Creating Opportunities and Casting Hope) program.
Mentors collaborate with families and individuals at risk of a range of issues including isolation, conflict, addiction or poverty. Through community mentoring, guidance and support can be given to encourage independence and growth.
Malcolm and his three sons are one such family who benefits from the COACH program. He and his sons moved to Geelong for a fresh start after some past challenges, dealing with the specialised needs of his children and parenting as a single father.
After being partnered with Graham in the COACH program, Malcolm can now discuss the issues affecting his family and collaborate with his mentor to work out achievable goals. Graham speaks with admiration about Malcolm’s goals and desires to be the best parent possible. For Malcolm, the support and encouragement provided by Graham and the COACH program means all the difference knowing that there is someone to help him get through tough times.
