Alcoa’s Parting Gift

The Alcoa Foundation has generously made a $318,000 contribution to Give Where You Live leaving a legacy to underpin Alcoa’s proud 51 year history in Geelong.

The donation will support the G21 Region Opportunity for Work (GROW) Project, an initiative that aims to address intergenerational unemployment by creating sustainable jobs in identified disadvantage suburbs in the Geelong Region. The project, a partnership between G21 and Give Where You Live, acknowledges the direct link betweenunemployment and social disadvantage Give Where You Live has committed to $2million over a 10 year period to fund the GROW project with The Alcoa Foundation assisting in building the project’s capacity over the next two years. “Alcoa is one of the companies that has helped make Geelong what it is today and their support for the community has been unbelievable” Bill Mithen, CEO Give Where You Live. Alcoa workers have contributed $2.3 million to Give Where You Live during their 51 years in Geelong and the Alcoa organisation a further $1 million.

Speaking at a function to thank Community Partners in Geelong, Alcoa of Australia Chairman and Managing Director Alan Cransberg said “We are very proud of the contribution that our employees and the company has made to this community, proud of all the great community initiatives that have come about through collaboration and partnership, and grateful for all the support we have received in return”.
