Volunteering Geelong

will join thousands of organisations around the nation to mark the 25th anniversary of National Volunteer Week in Australia from 12 – 18 May. This year’s campaign theme “Celebrate the Power of Volunteering” is all about appreciating and understanding the work of volunteers across the nation.

Volunteering Geelong recognises the valuable contribution of our communities thousands of volunteers; without them we would not be able to service the Geelong Region through the provision of many services – health, welfare, sport, the arts, schools, emergency services – the list goes on.

On the 25th National Volunteer Week, we acknowledge the support provided by Give Where You Live who recognise that volunteers are not only an asset to the regions organisations, but to the way we provide services and support to our community as well.

Volunteering Geelong provides a service to anyone who is interested in exploring volunteering. We manage a data base of volunteer vacancies on behalf of community organisations in the region. Our Volunteer Information Officers talk to potential volunteers about their interests, skills, time availability etc and match this with a range of volunteer vacancies for consideration.

We also work with community organisations to assist in the development of volunteer programs or the enhancement of existing programs to ensure that volunteers are managed effectively and that their volunteer experience is a positive one. Effective volunteer programs include strong support and training of volunteers and volunteer leaders which is where the Volunteering Geelong training calendar offers a range of workshops providing great personal and professional development.
